Gems good shepherdChurch Children’s Work
At Christ Church Chester we believe that children and young people are an important part of the church, and we have 2 main children’s groups which meet at the 11am service on a Sunday.

‘Gems’ is a group for children who are aged between pre-school and KS1 (up to school year 2). At Gems we learn about God in many different fun ways, from crafts to music and games.

‘Bible and Biscuits’ is a group for children and young people aged between KS2-KS3 (school years 3-9). As the name says, we study the Bible whilst having a biscuit (we try to follow the same sermon series as the rest of the church). We also learn about God through fun ways, from Drama to practical activities such as planting seeds.

Based on the needs of the children and young people involved, there is some flexibility and overlap between the two groups. Our children’s work is led by trained volunteers, who are mainly CRB checked (or are in the process of being CRB checked).

In both these groups we want the children and young people to have a safe space where they can:

  • learn about the Bible in a fun way,
  • know that they are loved and accepted as who they are, and
  • develop their understanding about how God and the bible can apply to their lives.
