This year we went for 2 circuits from our hostel in Corris. A great find – in the heart of beautiful mountains and a bargain at £15 a head. Day 1 started off with an accident. On the 1st decent down to lake Tal y Lyn, Craig, one of the light teamers, fell off his bike in wet conditions on a steep road. He bravely continued on but amazingly after making it over the 1st climb it became obvious he was suffering from more than a strain. We found a good samaritan at the end of a track who volunteered to take him and his bike to Dollgellau hospital. Meanwhile the rest of the team enjoyed the Mawbach trail along the estuary from west to east. Dollgellau recommended an x-ray and James volunteered to drive him back to Chester, leaving seven of us to go back to the hostel.

After a delicious Firs School chilli we were all out by 10.30pm. Next day we got a message from Craig that he had broken his wrist and collar bone… how did he manage that climb? The rest of us decided to do the Climach-x, a dedicated mountain bike trail in the nearby Dyfi forest. John in particular was looking forward to the “eye of the needle”, a “huge jump between a couple of trees” as part of “the longest MB descent in Wales”, however in an effort to lengthen the trip we ended up far from it. Next year…..! If you’d like to sponsor us still the link is here.
