Detached youth news!

Thanks for joining us to pray for another (male) volunteer to help lead the D’Biz. I was approached last week by a new guy at Christ Church with lots of experience and training with youth and a heart to reach the local, unchurched youth! Please pray for him as he settles into Christ Church , finding a home group to belong to, and for him and Jane as he goes to observe the D’Biz to discern whether this is right. I can’t believe how quickly this last year has gone, and Jane is coming to the end of her time with the Light Project. Working with the Newtown youth and leading the D’Biz was one of Jane’s projects, but now she has nearly completed her year out, we need to look for someone to continue in the role. Christ Church ’s PCC are shortly to be advertising for a part time Youth Worker from September. This will include co-ordinating the D’Biz and the churched youth programmes. If you or anyone else you know might be interested in this post, please contact me in the next week and we can send out an application pack. Candidates will be shortlisted during the first week in June and interview date is Saturday 19th June. Please pray for the candidates and the interview panel (myself, David and Rachel), for wisdom and the appointment of God’s choice! And thanks so much to Jane, who has really taken these young people with no previous contact with church, into her heart.

Parish visiting!

I am now in the complicated process of assigning Parish Visiting volunteers to residents in the area. Some visitors need to be paired up, others not. Some can only volunteer evenings and others during the day. Please pray for this process – it’s such an honour to be able to visit people in their homes and offer friendship, prayer and in some cases, regular communion and connection with church. Pray for the volunteers as they begin to go out; for compassion, their protection and safety and real discernment to hear the prompting of the Spirit as they befriend people in our Parish.

Other stuff:

As I write this newsletter, the future of the playgroup is unknown. I met the volunteers this month to pray and discern what God is saying. Some volunteers need to stop and others who are keen to continue are hesitant about committing to take a leadership role. Without clear vision and someone willing to lead the group, we cannot continue; God may be asking us to stop or to continue in a new shape. There will be a decision made in the next few weeks about this. Please pray for clarity and courage to do what God is asking (either way), thanksgiving for the relationships we have built, and equipping of those if God is calling people to step forward.

Thanks that we continue to have a great relationship with James, the new CPO (Community Police Officer) … this is enabling us to think and plan in a much more ‘joined-up’ way. The fruits of this include planning together for a residents group for the terraced houses in Newtown, working together on community clean-ups and effective dissemination of information, and planning for our summer BBQ with the police to cover a wider area and provide a ‘bigger’ event for the community, instead of two separate events. Please pray for Emily, again organising our Summer BBQ – for the congregation to support this outreach, for helpers and for practical arrangements. It would be wonderful to have good weather on the day itself, Sunday 13th June, and for open hearts to see that God is good!

Please pray for Andrew, our vicar as he begins his 3 month sabbatical this weekend! Andrew has been ministering in Chester now for about 9 years, and as he is staying in the Parish, he has a sabbatical to rest, pray, read, seek God and to come back ready to lead Christ Church for another stint! Pray for us all in his absence, that God is able to do what He wants, and for the group meeting to pray to discern what God might be opening up from Christ Church in terms of mission and building church ‘out there’!

Expect the next newsletter towards the end of June… we are on holiday for some of May. Thanks for your continued support.
